A great way to see Paris .
*****
opinion published on 2009/12/12
Booking on line was very simple, even 2 days before arrival from the US. And with an email confirmation, I was not worried about the paper confirmation being honored. It did take the first bus driver a while to confirm it & give us regular tickets, once we boarded, but it went well. We rode ALL 4 bus line routes around Paris & were so glad we did. It was great. We hopped on & off at our convenience. The sights were wonderful. If you've never been to Paris, ride the buses & see the whole city! Audio descriptions were fine.

We were with a large group and we had a wheelchair with us, but my compliments to the drivers who took in account that bording took some time for us.
It took us a while before we figuered out how to recognise the different routes. The small rectangle behind the front screen were not striking enough.
CITYRAMA ANSWERS : One bus on the Green Line Tour is accessible for wheelchairs, just inform us to make this bus operating on the tour you will select.

Safetybelts were a little bit to short for me.
Many people are asking in which direction a bus drives. I think an additional sign on the side of the bus near to the entrance would be helpful.

On the website was stated no German translation would be availble. On my tour this language was available (Grand Tour and Pigale).

The buses ran smoothly and if I missed one, I didn't have to wait too long for the next bus, except on the route 4 the buses don't run so often. The routes were well planned and gave a fantastic sight of Paris.

Hi! We used the city rama and we were very happy with the tour! In 1 day we succeeded to visit Paris' main attractions as well as the beautiful Basilica of Sacre Coeur. We were very pleased with the service as buses are very frequent and they pass through Paris' most central and popular areas! 100% recommended and 100% satisfied \;0

Wonderful.
Although my experience began badly - I got to one of the Bastille stops in time for the first bus of the day, it was waiting there with staff on board, I approached the bus, they didn't open the doors, 5 minutes later they drove off - the rest of my experiences were fantastic.
I especially enjoyed the Green Tour, and I also appreciated being able to use the Blue Line for transport back to my hotel on Rue de Lyon.

I found the map not quite explicit enough about bus stops - I could not find the Tour Montparnasse stop at all (I was approaching on foot).

However, the full Green Tour was a magical contribution to my first visit to Paris, and I will certainly use it again. I have also recommended L'Open Tour extensively on Tripadvisor.

Apart from the first crew who didn't let me on the bus, I found all the drivers courteous and helpful.

I highly recommend this option to see a large city to get the lay of the land and decide if you'd like to go back and spend all day later during your trip. If time is limited then you see all of the highlights! The headphones of information are very helpful and in every language. Hop off at your leisure, have lunch and know that another bus will be around each 20 min's for the entire day. Check the hours of operation so that you get near where you wish to end your day or be prepared to take the Metro.

Generally everything worked out well and your drivers were very helpful and courteous. My only criticism was your map, we visited Rodin exhibition then tried to find Ice Cream shop - a long walf - then tried to find a stop on Boulevard HAUSSMAN? and seemed to walk for miles practically at terminus before we found it!

IMHO this is the only way to experience Paris for a newbee. I bought a two-day-pass and I am absolutly satisfied. From the top roof of the busses you get an extraordinary view of the life in the streets of paris. The audio comment gives you hundreds of detailed and interesting informations of the city, the buildings, the history and of actual points of interests or events.

Everybody who has never been to Paris should ride the Open Tour Buses for a day or two and should mark everyhing he would like to explore closer on a map. Then on a second, third, fourth... day, you can come back by bus or metro and have a closer look...

Thanks to Cityrama for this genius service.

*****
opinion published on 2010/09/29
It was really good idea to buy tickets on L'Open Tour, because we could see all sightseeing, especially which are far away from the city centre.
What was in our experience a little bit annoying is that that day it was a strike on the bridge of Alexander III and the bus (direction 1) couldn't turn. So we missed lots of sightseeing. But my suggestion is in such situation driver should tell at least in french and english that the bus cannot go following the plan, than should tell about his new plan and to stop somewhere.
Other than this wa really great!

Second time using open air tour with Cityrama and have recommended same to friends. Minor downside was the identifying bus stop location numbers are not visible from the bus when at the stop.
*****
opinion published on 2010/10/02
1. Great choice of tours covering the Paris essentials and more.

2. Great audio commentary, but on most buses, half of the audio units did not work, which was annoying and frustrating, because we didn't know what we were driving past!

3. Tour times stopped far earlier than stated in any material. Driver gave wrong information. Receptionist at L'Opera office very unfriendly and unhelpful with regard to shuttle bus to Gare Du Nord. We had to make our own way via the Metro, which, with an elderly companion, was something I was trying to avoid.

4) The minuses outweigh the pluses: 1.5 / 5.0

Even in cold weather, I'm convinced the open top deck is the ONLY way to see the city by bus. (so glad it didn't rain) The tour would have been better if we had understood correctly the END time for the last bus. We understood the last bus to start it's LAST RUN at 6pm -- not to end it at 6pm. It was an unanticipated, unpleasant adventure getting back to our hotel that night.

Unfortunately, we couldn't do this excursion because of the inaccessibility of the buses! We booked the excursion online, and according to the information on the site, the Open Tour buses are accessible for wheelchairs, but in reality they are NOT!!! There are 3 or 4 big steps at the entrance and the entry is so narrow that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get in! LOST MONEY and BIG DISAPPOINTMENT...

We enjoyed the tours immensely but the attitude of the senior staff at the Paris office is appalling. The senior ladies in the Cityrama office are exceedingly rude. You say "Bonjour" to greet them and they do not even respond to you and cannot seem to make eye contact. I observed this being done to a number of passengers. The Cityrama office should secure staff who understand how to treat customers. I suggest you should do some mystery shopping to see how the services are managed.

Overall the tour was good. A good way to see the sights in a short period of time. However, much time was lost due to the way bus drivers operate the tour. At one stop, we waited 15 minutes while drivers changed. At another stop, the driver left the bus to get a coffee. At all stops, the drivers took a long time to board new passengers while checking tickets. L'Open tour should compare themselves with the "Original Tour" in London. This was run much better. Also, buses were rather cold. Having the top open at two places let lots of cold air in.

L'Open Tour is very convenient and spectacular way of sightseeing. I ment this tour to be a kind of introduction for first 2 days in Paris following with more detailed excursions. It worked very well.

I planned Cruise + Illumination tour for the last evening. It happened to be really nice closing of our Paris trip.
One thing is to be proccessed better: it took quite a long time to get back to Rivoli street after the cruise. We were told the bus left at 10 p.m. In fact we left about 10:30 or even later. It would be faster by metro if we only knew.

We were so pleased with the ability to "hop on, hop off" on this tour, which is why we purchased the tickets, but we can't recommend it to others. The waits at each stop are far, far too long. The driver should only pause to let others off/on and then go. It was very inefficient and we expected more from a company in business so long. The stop at #1 was over half an hour and we had small children with us. We should have been told it would be a very long wait. Also, the blue line closed down at noon the day we were there, so we couldn't even do one of the lines we wanted to see. The best part is that all of the drivers were very friendly.

The Tour was very pleasant and we learned (again) a lot about Paris.

However I like to make some remarks:

1. Please note at the busstops a timetable. With an interval of half an houre, it is very conevnient to know how long one have got to to wait.
2. Make your tiimetables in that way that at the stops where you can take another line, the busses arrive at, more or less, the same time. In that way it is convenient to transfer
3. I strongly recommend you to improve the spoken explanation. Now there is something told, but I don't know where to look. Left, right, in front, is it a grey building or....? etc. It was very hard to search where the explanation was talking about.

This was the first time I got the expericnce sightseeing on Paris La Open Tour. We were in a family group of 6 people. We took a day trip from London by Euro Train. Since it was on a day tour so time was limited. It finished late. At 7.10 pm leaved the Eiffel tower and reached Rue Auber at 7.45 pm. We just managed to hop on the green route. During the tour we had a good and exciting experience and able to take many photographs as we stop at various places such Musee du Louvre, Notre Dame, Tour Eiffel and others. It was unfortunate that when we reached at Rue Auber we don't know what to because the bus stopped the service. We had a bad experienced how to go back to Gar Du Nord from Rue Auber, since this was our first tour. And finally we reached Dar Du Nord on time for Euro Train to depart. Ok Bye.

Overall - Satisfied. My only complaint is long stops at some of the pick up points - we just sat there for up to 15 minutes. Since other busses are on the route there is NO REASON for the long stops.

Great tour. Earpieces need improvement as they kept falling off of our ears. Pleasant driver, great bus, frequency was very good. Wonderful way to get great overview of the city. Would definitely recommend.
